Here is my #CityofDreams interview with Ari Lopez, Renata Vaca, and Mohit Ramchandi. Feature hits theaters August 30, 2024.
Official Plot Summary: "Inspired by true events, City of Dreams follows Jesús, a young Mexican boy whose dreams of becoming a soccer star are shattered when he’s trafficked across the border and sold to a sweatshop making fast fashion in downtown Los Angeles. Thrust into a world of exploitation and despair; he’s forced to adhere to the grueling work schedule dictated by El Jefe, a boss who promises freedom for those who complete their quotas. Despite Jesus’s hellish existence, he finds solace in Elena, a girl who was similarly betrayed and sold into slavery. When she ...

Member berries to excuse: ship designs, computers, Weyland-Yutani corruption, drinking bird ornament because I'm never tired of seeing it, an android that looks like Ash, everything with Xenomorphs - 'cos they are kind of the point. Hell, it at least it added another stage, with the reveal of how Chestburster matured into adult Drone, not just by shedding skin like a snake, but gestating in a cocoon. I wouldn't accuse this movie of being forgettable. It is derivative as hell, but at least the mimicries were done generally competently. Plus it was memorable for the few twists it takes, such as actually justifying that black goo crap from Prometheus, cloning from Resurrection, and clarifying crazy android David didn't invent the creatures, he just made an inferior evolutionary branch; also actually using zero gravity - 6 official film entries, and none did anything with gravity, so that was new. It's a superficial, even semantic, difference, but instead of flamethrowers, they had cryo-blasters Also, there we got see an operational Company mining planet, and see how it is corrupt not just at the top, but all the way to the ground. And the Offspring was creepy as fuck; it adapted the Engineer design, but made it actually intimidating, rather than dopey. Also, it was better than the previous human-Xenomorph hybrid of the Newborn because that just looked like a lumpy moron, and wasn't remotely sinister; ugly and gross, but not scary, whereas the Offspring was appropriately unsettling. Also, at least unlike Covenant, the characters aren't the dumbest people in existence. They make some bad and even foolish decisions, but it made sense why they would make those choices in context. I liked Rain and Andy, so that kept my engagement. Liked them more than Elizabeth Shaw, even though I liked her too, but the filmmakers never really developed her completely, due to that whole dead off-screen thing. And for all the negativity associated with member berries, at least it felt like a damn Alien movie. There hasn't been one since bloody Aliens decades ago; so, if a few derivations are the price, I think it's welcome to bring some spirit back into the franchise. I actually applaud this new film's ending; I was certain they were going to follow the cliffhanger pattern from Prometheus and Covenant, but no, went full Alien/Aliens, ending it on ambiguity, but with certainty the threat was over for now. Despite my general positive opinion, I do suspect it most likely will bomb. There's the "fool me once, fool me twice" notion, and people were already wise to that because of Prometheus/Covenant, so doubtful the 7 years are enough to offer trust again.

Their names are referenced in their music as well. The protest mentioned is the march for recognising the Irish language in the current state the Six Counties are in. This film does need a bit of research to understand the full picture.

I vehemently disagree with Viggos character leaving his supposed love of his life,on her own,to fend for herself ,while he chooses to go off to war. It just doesn't make any logical sense. Why did Jimmy show up at the Weider house when Roy was killing Dr Weider, please? I remember that Roy borrowed Jimmy's car when leaving the bar. I agree. The dialogue actually got so empty because of the shortcuts for setup and payoff. It reminded me scripts on the yearly black list. Cool premise but bad execution. It Needed more character conflict beyond the money and more suspense and twists. It is difficult even to say it's a murder mystery like knives out. By the 20 min mark it's clear it's a supernatural slasher-ish the vein of the fall of the house of Usher

Thanks. Watch it asap. You'll be blown away in a weird way. Don't watch trailer or internet search. It will spoil the movie a little bit. Go blind. Movie is self explanatory. One suggestion...Watch till the credit scenes start.
